Gentle Healing Through Movement
Small Movements. Deep Shifts.
Therapy isn’t always about talking. Sometimes, the healing we’re looking for shows up in stillness, breath, and the quiet return to ourselves.
At Somatic Women, we understand that our experiences don’t just live in our minds—they live in our bodies too. That’s why some therapy sessions may include gentle, grounding practices drawn from Yin and Restorative Yoga. These aren’t traditional yoga classes. You won’t be doing sequences or flowing through poses. Instead, these slow, simple shapes offer another pathway into healing—one that invites calm, awareness, and nervous system regulation.
This might look like:
-
Pausing for a few moments of intentional breathing.
-
Using props or pillows to rest into a supported shape.
-
Practicing a short grounding movement to reconnect with your body.
-
Lying back in a restorative pose as you process emotion or release tension.
These practices are available as part of therapy—not as an extra service or a separate offering—and are always guided in collaboration with your needs and comfort.
What is Yin or Restorative Yoga?
Both Yin and Restorative Yoga focus on stillness, breath, and support. Unlike more active styles of yoga, these approaches use long-held, floor-based poses and lots of props (pillows, blankets, blocks) to help you settle into your body without effort.
-
Yin Yoga invites gentle pressure into deeper tissues and fascia to release held tension.
-
Restorative Yoga supports the nervous system and promotes rest and recovery through complete relaxation.
In therapy, these elements are used thoughtfully—not to push or perform, but to reconnect with safety and presence.

Is This Right for Me?
Not everyone finds movement or body-based practices helpful—and that’s completely okay. These practices are offered as an option, not a requirement. Whether you’re working through trauma, anxiety, stress, or just learning to be in your body again, this gentle integration might offer something new. But if talk therapy is your main path, that’s welcome too.
Looking Ahead
At Somatic Women, our therapeutic approach continues to evolve with care and intention. Over time, you may notice the addition of gentle, body-based resources—like brief yin or restorative yoga practices or calming meditations. These tools are designed to support nervous system regulation and emotional grounding, just like the work we do in therapy sessions.
These resources will always reflect the spirit of Somatic Women: trauma-informed, slow-paced, and optional. When available, you’ll be welcome to explore them at your own pace, choosing what supports you best.
